The original name for West Coast Youth Services Inc was Youthaven which was officially opened in April 1986. Youthaven was started by a group of dedicated people in response to a community need for safe accommodation for youth at risk. One house provided accommodation for up to ten young people aged from 12 to 18. Counselling was an important part of the services provided.
This original service
has grown to include shelter accommodation for up to 6 young people, 9 properties in the Stage 2 program, expanded
counselling services, Outreach and a Shop Front providing services located in the central business district.
Funding for this service was provided by both State and Federal Governments and still is until this day through the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program
(SAAP). |
