ABOUT WEST COAST YOUTH SERVICES

West Coast Youth Service (WCYS) was started in Port Lincoln by a dedicated group of people in response to a community need for safe accommodation for youth. Support is provided to any young people aged 12 - 25 on the Eyre Peninsula striving for independance and seeking assistance to achieve this through accommodation support, financial support, education and training support, parenting support, living skills support and advocacy.

WCYS provides emergency accommodation for young people under 18 and medium term housing to young people aged 16 - 25 that are homeless or at risk of being homeless. It also provides a free and confidential counselling service for young people and their families.

WCYS seeks to increase community awareness of the reality of lives of young people in the community. Whether suffering from social isolation, financial hardship, mental illness, homelessness or disengagement from education, WCYS feels the pressure on young people are real and need to be acknowledged by the wider community and work towards this by advocating for young people in all aspects of their lives.

The number of young people "falling through the cracks" is increasing and this is a challange for society as a whole to deal with. Support on a financial, volunteer and resource level needs to be maintained by government departments, schools, councils and media to support organisations at the coal-face who deal with young people and their issues everyday. Continued support enables provision of services by a variety of organisations such as WCYS who assist young people in their journey towards independance, adulthood and a successful career.
